Events: Foodie Tour of Global Village

Before I get into the food: ladies beware, please don’t wear shorts or skirts to Global Village as they will have you wear (itchy) leggings to abide by park rules. Also Global Village ends this season on the 9th of April 2016.

Even though Dubai Food Festival has ended, it has extended its reach to the revamped Global Village (which now has a more modern feel). The best way to explore a place in my book is to check out the food, and what’s better than a food trail! (cue slightly evil laugh)

Starting off with a Thai fruit stand opposite the African pavilion, which stocks multiple varieties of Thai fruits (favorites being: green guava and green mango). They also had something called rose apple which tasted like a sweet cucumber which sounds odd but really is the best description.

Fresh coconuts are available too and after you’re done, don’t forget to ask them to crack it open to get to the fleshy bits! Continue reading Events: Foodie Tour of Global Village

Event: Foodies x Benjarong meetup

SAM_8397Earlier this week I was invited to a fantastic meetup at Benjarong in the Dusit Thani on Sheikh Zayed Road. Being one of the oldest hotels on SZR upholding Thai traditions neither does the Dusit Thani nor Benjarong disappoint.

Started off with an appetizer plate: marinated beef skewer (neua rue gai satay), deep fried vegetable spring rolls (por pia savoey), deep fried shrimp cake (tord mun goong) and chicken wrapped in pandanus leaves (gai haw bai toey). Although all of these were delicious, my favorite was the succulent chicken wrapped in pandanus leaves.

A special treat was live preparations of my favorite Thai salad (som tam) with different spice levels. I ended up with a medium spicy som tam drenched in a spicy lime dressing. #hungerpangs. Continue reading Event: Foodies x Benjarong meetup

New restaurant alert: Culinary Boutique

Culinary Boutique houses not only a restaurant and cafe, but also offers top notch cooking classes, and is so massive with a terrace that it could easily hold amazing events as attested to by the grand opening!

If you’ve been following me on Instagram, you must’ve noticed how stunning Culinary Boutique is (located in Jumeirah 1 after Dubai Zoo). For the Grand opening event was beautifully executed with a lavender theme!

Walking in we were greeted with juices mixed with in-house made lavender syrup and homemade strawberry jam, perfect for the recent spell of weather.

The first thing that caught my eye was the impressive display of desserts and cakes, all of which had lavender incorporated. Out of all these gorgeous confections it’s hard to pick a favorite but I think the blueberry cake stole the show.

I was a little hesitant since I’m not the biggest fan of lavender (flower flavors in general) but when I tried it I was incredibly surprised and went for seconds XD.
Lavender cake pops, cupcakes with cream cheese frosting, pound cakes, cream puffs, snowballs and macarons were all glorious.

Even though I started with dessert, Culinary Boutique actually offers a lot more than just sweets! They have a lot of fantastic food, favorites being: wagyu slider, takoyaki, addictive teriyaki chicken skewers – pair all that off with a fresh sparkling lemonade.

Culinary Boutique offers great cooking classes, we ended up making a prawn and coconut curry in under 15 minutes (thank you Chef Julius, whose mission is to make you “fall in love and appreciate what culinary art is”). Loved loved his belief in food sourcing, know where you get your food from – schooled in the difference in the prawns from Philippines versus Vietnam. Similarly, every single thing at CB is sourced responsibly, with the micro greens being grown in store!

Desserts round 2 was mini doughnuts filled with lavender, chocolate and rose cream served with either white chocolate or toffee sauce. There was sweet lavender ice cream too!

With meticulous attention and passionate people running the show Culinary Boutique has me impressed.

Christmas at the Eloquent Elephant!

Christmas came a bit early at Eloquent Elephant located in the Taj Dubai, Business Bay. The place was buzzing for a Wednesday night and was lit up; the dining area was quite decked out and the mini Christmas trees first caught my attention.

Virgin mojito! Minty, refreshing and very cooling! Served with corn and purple potato chips.

The first starter was the smoked salmon which had been sliced thinly and smoked to perfection, the wasabi guacamole went exceptionally well with the smoked fish. And look at that presentation :O

The second starter was duck foie gras ballotine with fig chutney. The pate spread on the crisp bread and topped with a sweet rich fig chutney was an incredible medley of flavors. Continue reading Christmas at the Eloquent Elephant!

Events: Coffee is Costa Masterclass + New Menu Additions

Recently, we attended a coffee masterclass for beginners at the Costa Training Academy which we had been looking forward to since we had received the invite! We also got treated to their new menu which is fantastic but more on that later.
The masterclass started off with a short introduction to the Costa brand, a few things to know:

  • Only 1% of the world coffee beans are good enough for Costa.
  • They use fresh milk in their coffee not UHT hence you get a creamier, richer coffee.
  • Their coffees are handcrafted by their expert baristas and not button pushed.

So we started off with Costa’s core skills trainer Gihan explaining how the Costa process works. The espresso – an extremely important base for most coffees – needs to be brewed the right way starting with the grinding of the roasted coffee to the temperature of the water. Each espresso sip has a different flavor – sweet, bitter and then acidic. Making the perfect cup of coffee isn’t an easy task, it takes Costa baristas approximately 200 hours of training!

Their barista’s are extremely talented apart from winning multiple competitions including winning the Global Champion of Champions Barista of the Year twice, they can also sketch your face onto your coffee don’t believe me take a look at the pictures of a few bloggers at the event!

We were taught how to make a flat white including the coffee art which is harder to master than you think! Continue reading Events: Coffee is Costa Masterclass + New Menu Additions

Recently we were invited to the launch of the new range of De’Longhi multifry multicookers. De’Longhi launched their products in late 2014 and are now launching the De’Longhi Multifry Multicooker Extra Chef

The launch event was hosted at Jones the Grocer where I started my day with some fresh green apple juice.

Events: Craisins launch with a fun cooking class at Top Chef Cooking Studio

Recently we were invited to the Craisins launch at Top Chef Cooking Studio, Al Wasl Road right opposite Town Center Jumeirah.

OceanSpray is the brand that created Craisins and are launching them in the Middle East market; OceanSpray produces almost 95% of the world’s cranberries. If that name sounds familiar, it’s because you can already find their cranberry juices in stores.

As part of the event we were treated to a cooking demonstration by Chef Chloe St-Cyr (winner: Taste of New Zealand) recipes below.

We tried a huge range of easy to make items with craisins ranging from chutneys, rice, fish to desserts like cookies and muffins.

We started off with some goats cheese and cranberry chutney. The chutney on its own was fantastic, we weren’t big fans of the goats cheese. Continue reading Events: Craisins launch with a fun cooking class at Top Chef Cooking Studio

Last week we attended the launch of Recke’s new multicooker range at the Radisson Blu, Dubai Media City. Recke is a Hong Kong based brand and is renowned for it’s quality, improved energy efficiency and high levels of freshness – I can definitely vouch for those.
At the event we were treated to a live cooking demonstration by Deepti Chandak blogger at: (nominated for best blog at the ahlan awards yallah go vote). We got to see two demos: stuffed mushrooms with cheese, which were delicious and really easy to make and the scrumptious mud pie which was presented with berries and whipped cream.

An array of multicookers greeted us and they were brimming with food :O, the food cooked within the multicookers tasted brilliant, loved the minestrone soup, roasted potatoes and apple crumble; the butter chicken and moussaka were also great.
