Food: Johnny Rockets – the original hamburger

Having opened in 1996 Johnny Rockets has definitely made its mark in Dubai. The menu hasn’t changed in 19 years – until now. Their mammoth un-finishable portions sizes have been reduced but the large option is still available, vegetarian options have also been added. Their Sheikh Zayed Road branch is their flagship store.

Walking into the all American diner, you are greeted with a huge smile as soon as you walk in which is a welcoming change from Dubai service. The bar seating has the best view of the open kitchen where you can watch the chefs stacking up the burgers.
Customary starters are mozzarella sticks and jalapeno poppers served with salsa and blue cheese dip. Knockouts were the gooey jalapeno poppers filled with warm cheddar cheese. Service isn’t the only thing served with a smile, every order gets a smiley face drawn with ketchup!

The first thing tried was the Route 66 veggie stacker – crispy doubled stacked patties topped with sautéed mushrooms, caramelized onions, Swiss cheese and topped with chipotle ranch sauce. In terms of flavor the Route 66 veggie stacker is made for those who aren’t fans of spice, less flavorful that the Jalapeno Cheddar stacker (same ingredients just the addition spice) which just packs more of a punch. These burgers are huge, open your mouth wide doesn’t even begin to cover it. It’ll also get messy fast due to the double patties, keep that tissue dispenser close! Other excellent new options are the crispy chicken burger and the spicy Houston.
Spicy chili cheese fries with evenly dispensed cheese, chili and onions. Having had quite a fair share of chili cheese fries over the years nothing comes close to these ones. Finding spicy chili cheese fries are a hard task but going to be heading to Johnny Rockets whenever I need a fix.
What goes with a burger? Milkshakes of course, and Johnny Rockets doesn’t disappoint. Your milkshake will come along with a steel container which contains whatever couldn’t fit into your glass which for me was almost a full glass :O
Their shake of the month was chocolate oreo which was an instant yes and a classic vanilla shake. Sweet, creamy and just perfection in a glass – best milkshakes in Dubai!
The new revamped dessert menu includes and soft and rich chocolate fudge cake which I could have any day of the week. The berry cheesecake was the table favorite and gobbled up quite fast. The red velvet cake was good when had with heaps of cream cheese icing but the sponge was too dry on it’s own.
The desserts bites aren’t on the menu and are just in the testing phase are also a great addition, peanut butter and jelly was the surprise favorite.
Still dreaming about those jalapeno popperschili cheese fries and those incredible milkshakes. Try out one of their burgers and let me know what you think.
