Food: Iftar at Crumble Cafe

Iftar yesterday was at a family haunt which was recently remolded into Crumble Cafe. They have a few minimal changes to the decor with fun, edgy canvases on the walls don’t worry they still have the same laidback chairs and sofas. For Ramadan they have an iftar set menu which is 120 AED per person and includes: Ramadan drink, soup, salad, main course and dessert. The set menu did look tempting but we ended up ordering a la carte with a few new dishes and family favorites.

As soon as we opened our fast the juices and bread basket dropped by, The slightly sweet bellini twist: peach, carrot, orange and honey.
Healthy F-4 fusion: kiwi, orange, banana and honey.
Refreshing spice sunrise: apple, pineapple and ginger.

We started off with some soup which we think is the best way to open your fast.

Mushroom cappuccino with vanilla foam and almond dust. The mushroom soup wasn’t too creamy and went well with the crispy bread. The flavors of vanilla and almond were subtle but provided a good kick.

The classic tomato soup was rich and creamy, served with the same toasty bread. We could gorge this down by the bucketful.

Up next was the mixed appetizer platter: spring rolls, mozzarella sticks, fried mac n cheese, fried chicken, salsa and hollandaise sauce.
The spring rolls were crunchy with a soft but not too hot vegetable filling.
The mozza sticks were gobbled up almost immediately, went well with both dips.
The mac n cheese balls had a crisp outer coating but were gooey and fluffy from the inside: the perfect comfort food.
The fried chicken is the same that’s used atop the chicken and waffles and is delicious.

The halloumi salad was huge (a least 10 pieces of halloumi), a zesty fresh salad topped with juicy halloumi: a powerful combination.

SAM_1939The staple of any visit to Crumble Cafe the beetroot salad, I cannot stress enough how perfect this salad is; crisp veggies, soft beetroot chunks, roasted almonds and a tangy balsamic glaze. #perfection

For main courses I decided to try the signature dish: creole seafood which is perfect for seafood lovers. Yorkshire pudding filled with spiced buttered seafood, rice and topped with coconut foam. Beware incredibly filling.

We tried out 2 pizzas: vegetarian and spicy chicken. The vegetarian was incredibly flavorful, topped with mushrooms, bell pepper and zucchini. The spicy chicken on the other hand was spicyyyyy. Both the pizzas were light and crispy.

SAM_1960  We asked for a penne arrabiata and the staff kindly obliged another great dish with a hearty sauce. (Yes we tend to order a bit more when we’re fasting when ordering the hunger gets to us and we always order more).

For dessert we decided we’d try the date pudding with ice cream. The date pudding is a magical dessert with a hot and cold combination. The pudding itself is topped with walnuts and toffee sauce wheras the vanilla ice cream is authentic vanilla. Definitely will be heading back for this, btw they do a fantastic karak chai.

Overall another fantastic visit for the fam jam!

    1. It’s right next to the Sofitel Downtown (you’d think it’s part of the hotel itself but no), and opposite the Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall Metro station
